Particulate and stack dust monitoring
Monitoring dust emissions in fossil fuel-fired power plants is a critical component of environmental compliance. AQMSGROUP has extensive experience providing advanced dust measurement solutions.
AQMSGROUP provides comprehensive solutions for air quality monitoring with fixed and mobile Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (AQMS). Their systems continuously measure multiple pollutants, including gases (SO₂, NOx, CO, O₃, VOCs), particulate matter (PM2.5, PM10), weather parameters, and wind speed/direction. With global operations and hundreds of real-time monitoring sites.
Our AQMS dust probe devices are ideal for detecting low to medium dust concentrations through forward scattering of light. For higher dust concentrations, our cross-duct instruments, utilize optical transmittance, to ensure precise measurements in challenging conditions. These systems, combined with a suitable purge air blower, are engineered to perform reliably at high temperatures. With our proven expertise in emissions monitoring, AQMSGROUP continues to deliver tailored solutions that meet stringent regulatory requirements and optimize operational performance.
Monitoring of Dust Emissions
Accurate monitoring of dust emissions is a critical requirement for compliance in fossil fuel-fired power plants. The concentration of dust or opacity in the stack must be measured continuously to ensure adherence to environmental regulations. These measurement ranges and the number of components involved are determined by local or national regulatory standards, as outlined in the plant’s operating permit.
AQMSGROUP offers advanced dust monitoring solutions to meet these requirements. Our AQMS dust probe measuring devices are designed to accurately measure dust concentrations ranging from very low to medium levels, using the principle of forward light scattering. This technology provides reliable data for emission control and reporting.
For plants with medium to high dust concentrations, we offer cross-duct instruments that measure opacity based on optical transmittance. These units provide enhanced precision in high-concentration environments and are ideal for use in larger stacks or ducts. When combined with a purge air blower, AQMS dust monitoring units ensure reliable performance even under high-temperature conditions, making them a perfect choice for power plants operating in demanding environments.
AQMSGROUP’s dust measurement technology not only ensures compliance with regulatory standards but also helps optimize operational efficiency by providing real-time data for process control, enabling power plants to reduce emissions, improve combustion efficiency, and avoid costly penalties for non-compliance. Our equipment is engineered for durability and reliability, making AQMSGROUP your trusted partner for comprehensive emissions monitoring.
Choosing the Right Dust Monitor: Light or back scatter, Triboelectric or Opacity
Monitoring air quality and emissions in industrial settings is crucial for environmental compliance and public health. Dust monitors play a pivotal role in measuring particulate matter released during various industrial processes. Understanding the differences between Optical or Triboelectric dust monitor types is essential to make an informed decision.
Triboelectric monitors are known for their robustness and reliability, even in challenging environments. They are less affected by factors such as humidity or smoke compared to optical monitors, making them a preferred choice in industries with harsh operating conditions. Additionally, these devices provide a cost-effective solution for continuous monitoring of particulate matter emissions. With their stability and minimal maintenance requirements, triboelectric monitors are ideal for applications where consistent and dependable measurements are crucial.
Opacity provides a proven and recognized solution for the higher dust loadings found after unabated combustion processes or after Electrostatic Precipitators in the Power, Steel and Cement Industries.
Core Features of the Technology are:
- Single pass measurement for simple opacity (colour) measurement.
- Double pass measurement options for Compliance with US EPA PS-1 requirements.
A light source, typically an LED, shines light through the particulate in a stack, and the amount of transmitted light is measured by a receiver. In a single-pass instrument, the receiver is mounted on the opposite side of the stack.
In contrast, a double-pass instrument (compliant with UP EPA PS-1) reflects the light back to the transceiver using a retro-reflector on the far side of the stack. Opacity instruments can be designed to measure two parameters:
- First a measurement of the Stack Opacity (stack blackness) according to the simple equation:
Opacity = 100 (1 – Received Light/ Transmitted Light) % - Secondly, a measure of the stack extinction which has a linear relationship with dust concentration for a particular type of dust and dust size:
Extinction = Natural Log (Received Light/ Transmitted Light)
