Fixed Gas Detectors

AQMS GROUP provides fixed gas detection and monitoring systems for the continuous measurement of toxic, combustible, and explosive gases, supporting industrial safety, regulatory compliance, and risk management.

Why use a fixed gas detector?

Fixed gas detectors provide continuous monitoring of hazardous gases within defined areas, delivering early warning of abnormal or dangerous gas concentrations. These systems are designed to protect personnel, plant, and infrastructure by detecting unsafe conditions before they escalate into incidents.
Equipped with high-accuracy gas sensors, fixed gas detectors measure the concentration of toxic, flammable, explosive, or asphyxiant gases, depending on the application. Alarm outputs can be configured to alert personnel and initiate appropriate response actions when threshold levels are exceeded.
Unlike portable detectors, fixed gas detection systems operate 24 hours a day, providing permanent area coverage. Systems can be integrated with central controllers, visual displays, audible alarms, ventilation systems, and building management systems (BMS) to automatically respond to elevated gas levels and support regulatory compliance.

Turnkey Fixed Gas Detection Solutions

AQMS GROUP delivers turnkey fixed gas detection solutions, tailored to site-specific risks and operational requirements. Our systems are suitable for the detection of explosive, toxic, and asphyxiant gases, including refrigerant gases, ammonia (NH₃), hydrogen, carbon monoxide (CO), and LEL gases.

We support the full system lifecycle – design, supply, installation, commissioning, servicing, calibration, and ongoing maintenance – ensuring reliable performance and long-term compliance for industrial, commercial, and infrastructure environments.

GDA Fixed Gas Detectors

Would you like to understand the full capabilities of our fixed gas detection systems? AQMS GROUP utilises advanced electrochemical sensing technology to detect a wide range of gases with high accuracy and reliability. Each system offers multiple configuration options, allowing solutions to be tailored to suit specific industries, environments, and applications. If you have any questions about system suitability or configuration, our technical team is available to provide guidance and support throughout the process.

Fixed gas detection systems are typically permanently installed in industrial and commercial environments. These systems generally consist of one or more gas sensors connected to a central control unit, capable of activating audible and visual alarms or initiating control actions such as ventilation or safety system responses when gas concentrations exceed predefined thresholds. Common gases monitored include carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen sulphide (H₂S), methane (CH₄), oxygen (O₂), ammonia (NH₃), chlorine (Cl₂), and nitrogen dioxide (NO₂).

Carbon Monoxide (CO) Sensor Testing & Calibration

Ensure Safety & Compliance in Enclosed Car Parks

AQMS Group provides specialised testing and calibration services for Carbon Monoxide (CO) sensors, helping building owners and facility managers maintain compliance with Australian safety standards and occupational health regulations.

Understanding Carbon Monoxide (CO)

Carbon Monoxide is a colourless, odourless, and highly toxic gas produced by petrol, diesel, and gas-powered engines. It can accumulate rapidly in underground or poorly ventilated spaces, such as car parks, and poses serious health risks if not properly managed.

Why CO Monitoring is Critical

Most enclosed or underground car parks without natural ventilation are required to have mechanical exhaust systems that activate automatically based on CO levels. These systems depend on CO sensors to:

  • Continuously monitor air quality
  • Trigger mechanical ventilation when CO concentrations rise
  • Prevent exposure beyond safe limits

As per the Occupational Safety and Health Act, all CO-controlled ventilation systems must be:

  • Routinely tested and calibrated
  • Documented with maintenance records
  • Maintained to ensure CO exposure does not exceed legal thresholds

Fixed Gas DetectorsBiannual CO Sensor Maintenance by AQMS Group

At AQMS Group, we offer comprehensive six-monthly (biannual) programmed maintenance for CO monitoring systems in line with:

  • AS 1851 – Routine service of fire protection systems and equipment
  • AS 1668.2 – Mechanical ventilation for acceptable indoor air quality

Sensor Lifespan & Testing Frequency

  • Expected sensor lifespan: 5–8 years
  • Lifespan can be shortened with frequent or high-level CO exposure
  • Testing frequency requirements vary by manufacturer (6 to 12 months)

At AQMS Group, we recommend routine 6-month servicing as our standard practice. This ensures consistency across different system manufacturers and ongoing compliance with safety legislation.

Mechanical Ventilation System Requirements

To comply with AS 1668.2, CO monitoring systems in car parks and enclosed motor vehicle areas must:

  • Be equipped with a digital CO level display
  • Operate continuously when vehicles are present
  • Automatically trigger alarms and ventilation under fault conditions
  • Be clearly marked with servicing/calibration instructions
  • Ensure at least one complete air change every 24 hours
  • Be designed so that no location in the car park is more than 25m from a sensor

All monitoring systems must be operated and maintained to ensure ongoing reliability and effectiveness.
